Stock market outcry: Sensex slips 1939, heavy fall in Nifty


The stock market fell sharply on the last trading day of the week today. Due to heavy selling in the US markets, the worldwide stock markets exploded, which also affected the domestic stock market. The Bombay Stock Exchange's flagship index Sensex ended 1939.32 points, or 3.80 percent, down at 49099.99. At the same time, the National Stock Exchange's Nifty closed at 154529.15, down 568.20 points, or 3.76 percent. In fact, in the US, key indices closed down due to rising bond yields and selling in technology stocks. Today, the market saw the biggest drop during the year due to strong selling pressure.

Heavy fall in global stock markets

Stock markets around the world have fallen due to heavy sales in US markets. The Nasdaq index was down by 478 points at 13,119 and the Dow Jones closed down 559 points. Japan's Nikkei index is down 737 points at 29,430. Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index is trading 771 points down at 29,303. China's Shanghai Composite Index, Korea's Kospi, and Australia's All Ordinaries Index are down two percent each.

GDP figures will be announced today

The GDP figures for the third quarter (October-December quarter) of the current financial year will be announced today. The epidemic and the associated lockdown caused a steep decline in GDP in the first two quarters. The country's GDP fell 23.9 percent in the first quarter and 7.5 percent in the second quarter.

The market was open with a heavy fall

In early trade, the Sensex was down 917.24 points (1.80 percent) to open at 50122.07. At the same time, the Nifty opened at 14829.60, down 267.80 points, or 1.77 percent. At 12.14 pm, the BSE Sensex was trading at a level of 49372.77, with a steep fall of 1666.55 points. With this, the NSE Nifty was down 468.95 points at 14628.40.

The market had closed sharply on Thursday

On Thursday, the domestic stock market closed at the edge after a day's ups and downs. The Sensex was up 257.62 points, or 0.51 percent, to close at 51039.31. At the same time, the Nifty closed at 15097.35 with a gain of 115.35 points i.e. 0.77 percent.
