Due to heavy selling in the stock markets worldwide, there was pressure in the domestic market today. The stock market closed with a heavy fall on Thursday, the fourth trading day of the week. The Bombay Stock Exchange's leading index Sensex closed down 598.57 points, or 1.16 percent, at 50846.08. At the same time, the National Stock Exchange's Nifty closed at the level of 15080.75, down 164.85 points, or 1.08 percent. Earlier, the Sensex had risen 2,344.66 points i.e. 4.77 percent and the Nifty rose 716.45 points or 4.93 percent in the last three sessions.
Heavy selling in stock markets across the world
On Wednesday, the Nasdaq index closed down 2.70 percent at 12,997. The Dow Jones and S&P 500 indices lost 1.39 percent. Japan's Nikkei index is trading down 517 points at 29,042. Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index is down 816 points to trade at 29,064. China's Shanghai Composite, Korea's Kospi, and Australia's All Ordinaries index declined by 1.74 percent.
FDI increased by 22 percent in nine months
The Ministry of Commerce and Industry said that from April to December 2020, FDI came in for $ 67.54 billion. In comparison to these months of the previous year, FDI inflows were recorded 22 percent more. FDI equity inflows grew 40 percent to $ 51.47 billion in the first nine months of FY 2020-21. Whereas in the same period last year, the figure was $ 36.77 billion.

Talking about the big stocks, today UltraTech Cement, Adani Ports, Shree Cement, Doctor Reddy, and Grasim's shares closed on the green mark. JSW Steel, HDFC, Hindalco, Tata Steel, and Tata Motors closed at the red mark.

If we look at the sectoral index, today, apart from media and realty, all sectors closed on the red mark. These include PSU Bank, Finance Services, FMCG, IT, Bank, Pharma, Auto, Private Bank, and Metal.

In early trade, the Sensex was down 744.85 points (1.45 percent) to open at 50,699.80 and the Nifty was down 218.85 points, or 1.44 percent, at 15,026.75.

On Wednesday, the stock market closed at the edge. The Sensex had ended 1147.76 points, or 2.28 percent, at the level of 51444.65. At the same time, the Nifty closed at the level of 15245.60, up 326.50 points, or 2.19 percent.
