Sensex-Nifty closed on edge for the eighth consecutive day, the rupee continued to rise


The stock market closed on the first trading day of the week amid positive global trend. This is the eighth consecutive trading session when the Sensex-Nifty closed strongly. The Bombay Stock Exchange's leading index Sensex gained 0.21 percent to close at 40593.80, up 84.31 points. At the same time, the National Stock Exchange's Nifty gained 0.14 percent (16.75 points) to close at 11930.95.

Continuation of increase in the rupee

The rupee fell 12 paise to close at 73.28 per dollar on Monday in the interbank foreign exchange market. The rupee has broken after registering gains for three consecutive trading sessions. However, the rupee opened strongly in early trade. It also touched a one-day high of 73.06 per dollar. The rupee traded up 25 paise during the day's trading. The rupee finally ended with a loss of 12 paise at 73.28 per dollar.

Analysts said the rupee came under pressure as the dollar strengthened against other Asian currencies. However, the softening of crude oil prices supported the rupee. Meanwhile, the dollar index, which showed the dollar's position against the six currencies, rose 0.11 percent to 93.15.

Vedanta shares fall strongly

After the delisting failure of Vedanta Ltd., its shares fell sharply today. In the information given to the stock exchange, it was said that the company had received bids for 125.47 crore shares. While 134 million shares were needed to be its delist. Vedanta's stock fell 25.20 points (20.68 percent) today to close at 96.65. It opened at 109.70 in early trade.

Such was the situation of veteran shares

Talking about the big stocks, today the shares of Infosys, ITC, UPL, Cipla, and Asian Paints closed on the green mark. Bharti Airtel, JSW Steel, GAIL, HDFAC Life, and Tata Motors shares closed at the red mark.

Sectoral index tracking

If we look at the sectoral index, today all sectors except IT, FMCG, and Pharma closed on the red mark. These include PSU Bank, Private Bank, Finance Services, Bank, Media, Metal, Realty, and Auto.

The Sensex started today at 40797.08, up 287.59 points, or 0.71 percent. At the same time, the Nifty opened at 11829.70 with an increase of 0.67 percent or 80.05 points.
