MG Motor India (MG Motor India) is constantly trying to strengthen its portfolio in India. Consider the Indian line-up of the company, following the success of MG Hector, its 6-seater version Hector Plus was launched. MG's electric SUV ZS EV is also gaining popularity. Apart from this, the company is preparing to launch its 7-seater premium SUV Gloster (Gloster). MG Motor showcased its SUV for the first time at the Auto Expo 2020 in February. Along with this, the company showcased another SUV MG ZS at the Auto Expo. This electric SUV is the petrol version of the ZS EV. The company is constantly testing it. It was recently spotted testing on Indian roads, indicating that the company is preparing for its launch.
The testing model of the MG ZS was fully covered and looked similar to the existing electric SUV ZS EV. The testing car featured an exhaust muffler, making it clear that it is a petrol engine model. Like the electric version, it also gets 5-spoke alloy wheels, roof rails and shark fin antenna.
Hybrid car with petrol too
The SUV is sold worldwide in petrol and all-electric versions. However, for India, the carmaker decided to launch the electric version first. Recently the company has introduced the facelift model of MG ZS petrol version in the UK. The ZS offered in India can be based on this model. According to the report, MG Motor India can also bring a petrol hybrid model of this compact SUV. Along with the petrol model, the hybrid version will also be evaluated for the Indian market.
The MG ZS petrol SUV will get a 1.5-litre petrol engine. This engine will generate 105 bhp and 150 Nm peak torque. A 5-speed gearbox will be available with this engine. The MG ZS Petrol Hybrid option is expected to come with a 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine, which is offered with the pre-facelift model in the UK and has an electric motor. The turbo-petrol motor generates 108 bhp power and 160 Nm peak torque. A 6-speed automatic transmission is available with this engine.
Speaking of the look, the new ZS SUV will be similar to the ZS EV sold in India. In terms of features too, it will be seen to be on par with the ZS EV. It will get 5-spoke alloy wheels and underbody and wheel arch cladding. The front may look a bit different, with a larger functional grille, new headlamps with LED DRLS and even an updated bumper with a larger air dam. Similarly, the tailpipe will be provided for the new style LED tail lamps, revised bumpers and exhaust system at the rear of the work.
Apart from this, features such as a full-digital instrument cluster, 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, leather seats, power-adjustable driver seat, panoramic sunroof and air purifiers can be offered in the top variant of the SUV. In terms of safety, it can get features like 6-airbags, hill start assist, hill descent control, tire pressure monitoring system, rear parking camera and sensors and electric parking brake.
Launching and combat
The MG ZS SUV can be launched in the second half of the year 2021 in the Indian market. It will be below the MG Hector SUV in the company's lineup. After the launch, it will compete in the Indian market with SUV cars such as the Kia Celtos, Hyundai Creta and Maruti S-Cross. The company is earlier planning to launch the large-size SUV MG Gloster and G10 MPV for the Indian market.
