MG Motor has announced that it will honor Indian athlete Bhavina Patel, who won a silver medal at the Tokyo Paralympics on Sunday, with a new car. The company's chairman and managing director Rajiv Chaba announced on Sunday. India's para table tennis player Bhavina Patel lost 3-0 to Zhou Ying of China in the women's singles final - Class 4 at the ongoing Tokyo Paralympics. She is the first table tennis player to win a Paralympic medal for India and the second female athlete after Paralympic Committee of India (PCI) chief Deepa Malik to achieve the feat.
However, the company has not officially clarified which car it will gift to Bhavina Patel for her gallantry. But it is expected that the company can gift the MG Astor SUV to the player. Because the carmaker is all set to launch its new SUV called the Astor for the Indian markets soon. This will be the fifth car in the country from the Chinese-owned British carmaker in India after the MG Astor SUV, Hector, Hector Plus, Gloster, and ZS EV SUVs.
MG had partially revealed the Astor SUV a few days back when the carmaker had informed about the AI technology of the car. The 2021 Astor SUV will look similar to the ZS EV in terms of exterior design. However, the smart and connected SUV will come with a host of features and technologies. The MG Astor SUV will come equipped with a new Concept of Car Software as a Platform (CAAP) which is claimed to be built on new-age smart technologies like Machine Learning, Blockchain, Artificial Intelligence.
The 2021 Astor SUV will also be the brand's first car with an Artificial Intelligence (AI) powered personal assistant system. It is expected to be able to list voice commands and perform tasks like playing music, making or receiving calls, texting, etc. The SUV will also get segment-first autonomous Level 2 technology. Incidentally, the player, Deepa Malik has been roped in as the voice of MG Motor's personal AI assistant for the Astor SUV. The new Astor SUV is likely to be launched in India in the next few weeks. It will give tough competition to the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos SUVs.
