The Central Government has approved increasing the size of buses, truck-trails, and freight vehicles in line with foreign standards to improve the efficiency of operations in the country. The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has issued notification for change in the size of vehicles in Rule-93 related to the Central Motor Vehicles Act-1989.
The notification of the Ministry states that this amendment will allow the size of vehicles to be made in accordance with international standards. This will improve the country's logistic capacity. This change will increase the ability to seat passengers in vehicles or to carry freight. An amendment to the rule will result in the following changes in vehicles. Two wheels: Maximum 4 meters long and 2.5 meters high.
Tricycles: Height can be increased from 2.2 meters to 2.5 meters.
Tram: 25.25 meters long, corresponding to European countries on select routes.
Bus: The height of other buses will be increased from 3.8 to 4 meters except for the airport bus ride. At the same time, the length of buses of two axles can be increased from 12 meters to 13.5 meters.
Pneumatic trailer: It can be made similar to a modular hydraulic trolley.
Cargo Vehicle: Its height has also been increased so that the traffic of the container is boosted.
