Taking a step towards making electric vehicles affordable, the Gujarat government on Tuesday announced its new Electric Vehicle (EV) policy. Under the Gujarat EV policy, a subsidy of Rs 870 crore will be provided for two lakh electric vehicles in the next four years. Due to which the price of electric vehicles will be cut.
Subsidy up to 20,000 on two-wheelers: Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani has announced that the state government will subsidize electric vehicles on a per kilowatt basis. Under the new Gujarat EV policy, the state government aims to increase the demand for battery-powered vehicles by providing incentives to buyers. Under this scheme, electric two-wheelers will get a subsidy of up to Rs 20,000 and there is a provision of subsidy up to 1.5 lakh on electric cars.
Benefit in addition to the FAME-II scheme: It is to be noted here that this subsidy will be available in addition to the FAME-II subsidy provided by the Central Government. This EV policy also announced a 25% capital subsidy of up to 10 lakhs for setting up 250 charging stations across the state. Gujarat Chief Minister Rupani expects the new EV policy to bring at least 1.25 lakh electric two-wheelers, 75,000 e-rickshaws, and 25,000 electric cars on the state's roads.
Let's take a look at this new EV policy: Under the new policy, the use of electric vehicles in the state will increase in the next four years. Gujarat will be made a hub for e-vehicles and various related materials. This will solve the problem of air pollution. With this, 250 new charging stations will be added in the state. Charging facilities will be provided in the housing and commercial infrastructure. At the same time, petrol pumps will also get approval to set up EV charging points. Electric vehicles registered with Gujarat RTO will be exempted from the registration fee.
By bringing these vehicles into operation, at least six tonnes of CO2 emissions will be reduced. Whereas the subsidy will be deposited directly into the bank accounts through DBT. Let us inform you that this announcement regarding the new EV policy in Gujarat has been announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the World Environment Day program to develop the Kevadiya area as an electric vehicle city.
