A new report claims that Bengaluru-based EV startup Ather Energy is developing a new electric scooter for the Indian market. It is reportedly priced under Rs 1 lakh, which makes it the most affordable Ather in India. With state and central government subsidies, the price of an e-scooter can drop from Rs 80,000 to Rs 90,000.
Not just Ola S1 and Simple One, the new Ather e-scooter could impact sales of Honda Activa, TVS Jupiter, and Suzuki Access. The new scooter will be based on the Ather 450 platform. The company is currently selling two models 450 Plus and 450X, which are priced at Rs 1.13 lakh and Rs 1.32 lakh respectively. The new electric scooter is in an advanced stage of development. It is to be launched in the first quarter of FY 2023, which means from April to June 2022.
According to media reports, Ravneet Phokela, Chief Business Officer, Ather Energy, said, “We are already working on a product that will come at a price lower than the 450 Plus, it is a few months away, and we understand that the decision and It takes 18-24 months to roll out the product. The company's vision is to strengthen the scooter market, unlocking more segments than it is today, through price points and importantly with a focus in newer states.
