Although gymming is the preferred mode of workout that people take to, but dancing in various styles such as Zumba, Tango, belly dancing and aerobics are becoming trendy too these days, according to Fitpass’s co-founder Akshay Verma.
Zumba fitness has quickly grown to one of the most popular group exercise classes on the planet. In fact, the Latin-dance inspired workout is reportedly performed by more than 12 million people at 110,000 sites, in 125 countries around the world.
“Ditch the Workout – Join the Party!” That’s the marketing slogan for Zumba fitness, which attracts exercisers with a fun fusion of dance moves from styles like Salsa, Merengue, Reggaeton and Flamenco, and the sort of choreography you might see in a nightclub.
Fitpass — an online portal — offers access to over 1000 gyms and fitness studios in New Delhi and 100,000-plus daily workout options to choose from.
“Traditional workouts on gym equipment are monotonous and don’t excite a large number of users. Users crave variety, excitement and fun ways to achieve their fitness goals. It is due to this that alternative workouts combining dance and use of body weight are extremely popular,” Verma said in a statement.
“More and more people are opting for alternative ways to work out as they are bored of regular treadmills and push-ups. They want something exciting to look forward to and dancing workout is something they enjoy. Also, this fun can actually be a big calorie burner — averaging between 500 to 1,000 calories per hour,” he added.
