Woman and her boyfriend arrested for allegedly stealing cash worth lakhs from neighbours

A 28-year-old lady and her beau were arrested for allegedly stealing assets and money worth lakhs from places of their neighbors in rural Borivli in separate incidents, police said on Wednesday.

The couple, recognized as Sonali Bhind (28) and Ashish Upadhyay (29), used to splurge the stolen cash for their happiness by visiting hill stations like Lonavala and Mahabaleshwar in state.

As indicated by police, Sonali, who claims to be employed with a private firm, and Ashish, who is in the last year of engineering, have been in a relationship since last seven years. They were arrested on Monday.

So far three complainants, all neighbors of the duo, have moved toward the police.

Clarifying the modus operandi of the couple, senior police inspector of Kasturba Marg police headquarters, Satish Raorane said they used to take disservice of the trust rested in them by their neighbors who used to keep their keys with the duo.

"In two incidents in October and November, the accused had stolen valuables and money worth Rs. 4 lakh and Rs. 1 lakh, respectively. One more complainant has also approached police," the officer said.

Further investigations are on, he added.
