New Delhi: Virender Sehwag was once a cricket star who is now a Twitter star. His wishing Ishant Sharma Happy Birthday will make you crack up. If you do not believe us, look at the tweet below. He writes, “Hpy Bdy #BaalWaaleBurjKhalifa @ImIshant Sharma, the best #SharmajiKaLadka ,jiske selection Se everyone is super happy.
Sehwag was once a very famous cricket star who hit fours and sixes like he was on a picnic. Little did he care as far as the reputation of bowlers was concerned. And also little did he care as far as his quotes in press conferences were concerned. Now look at his Twitter account, it is one of a kind.
Now one cannot confirm that how much of this humour is Sehwag’s own. This because we do not know who manages his account, does he get any help or what not. But think of Sehwag the commentator, the brilliant, humourous commentator.
Considering that he has been doing that on his own, we assume that he is inherently humourous. And to recap, it has been a humourous journey for him, from the pitch to press conferences, the commentary box and Twitter.
Sehwag also makes up for the Twitter feed of many other cricketers, which can be often plain and boring. It will be interesting to see how often we listen to Sehwag as far as commentary is concerned. He also comes across as a bit of a natural as far as humour goes. Not forced.
And he may not actually be preparing for hours like a Navjot Singh Sidhu we are told does. It will not be far off to see Sehwag as a television star with comedy being the flavour of the season and dare we say the taste of the decade. Harbhajan Singh and Shoaib Akhtar are already appearing on a TV show and Sidhu is of course a star on television. Sehwag may not be seen in the public eye as often as a Sidhu but that may soon change if he is to commentate regularly and even do some non-fiction TV program outside sport.
The other thing that is quite praiseworthy is that Sehwag’s tweets are not restricted to cricket. He was in full form during the Olympics for example and taking on author Shobha De head on. Although it is another matter on who was right and who was not. For now, keep the tweets coming Viru.
