BENGALURU: On Monday Vijayanagar MLA M Krishnappa, a big-time land developer, will be inducted into Siddaramaiah’s cabinet. According to Congress representatives, Krishnappa’s induction comes in the backdrop of force being accumulated by Vokkaliga leaders to augment representation to the community in the administration.
With two Vokkaliga ministers – MH Ambareesh and Kimmane Ratnakar – having been dropped in June from the cabinet through the rearrange, there was frantic lobbying between Vokkaliga MLAs for these berths. Sources has also further conveyed that, while Krishnappa was one of the frontrunners and was favoured by the chief minister throughout the preceding cabinet development, his name was dropped at the previous minute because of backbiting among the community MLAs. As then, the CM had kept one ministerial berth available.
The towering command has now approved Krishnappa’s name. Three months before, the denial of a ministerial berth to Krishnappa had triggered protests in Bengaluru with his supporters troublesome the Metro rail services. The other Vokkaliga leaders who were in the fray were CP Yogeshwar (Channapatna), K Sudhakar (Chikkaballapur), ST Somashekar (Yeshwantpur) and NH Shivashankar Reddy (Gauribidanur).
Sources have also further conveyed that, yogeshwar has been guaranteed a ministerial berth if power minister DK Shiva Kumar concurs to take over as full-time president of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee.
