Veteran Actress Jyothi Lakshmi passed away at the age of 63 today. She was suffering from ailing from some time.
Lakshmi started her career in the Bollywood industry by making her debut on the big screen with the Tamil film Periya Idathu Penn which came in 1963. She was cast as as a 'vamp' in various item songs.
She did around 300 films that were released not only in Tamil, but in Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada as well. She was also seen in Hindi films including Pistolwali (1972), Rani Aur Jaani (1973) and Jawab (1970). Lakshmi was part of films like Pilla Piḍuga, Bangaru Babu, Gandharva Kanya in Telugu industry.
Her popularity got depreciated after her sister Jaya Malini entered the industry and she was given role of Lakshmi. But, Laskhmi continued to act in film.
Director Puri Jagannadh came out with a film in 2015 with title “Jyothi Lakshmi”. It was supposed that Jagannadh had based his film on the life of the actress. But later, it was clarified that the film was not a biopic.
