Uttar Pradesh: 1 dead, 12 wounded in fresh clashes in Saharanpur, Yogi government accuses Mayawati


Saharanpur: One person died and 12 others wounded in clashes that took in Chandrapur village of Saharanpur district in western Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday.

UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath sent a team of four senior officials to Saharanpur to restrain the situation and observe the law and order condition in UP. The team involves ADG, Law and Order, Aditya Mishra, IG STF Amitabh Yash, DG Security Vijay Bhushan. It is headed by Home Secretary Mani Prasad Mishra.

On Tuesday, the incident occurred hours after Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo Mayawati visit to Shabbirpur village.

Violence between the upper-caste men and the Dalits took place in Chandrapur and neighbouring villages when they were coming back after attending Mayawati’s meeting. As per Saharanpur SSP Subhash Chandra Dubey, 24 people have been detained and 3 FIRs were lodged.

Mayawati made a visit to Shabbirpur after Dalits, headed by Bheem Army, attacked Jantar Mantar in Delhi and carried out a protest over anti-Dalit clashes on May 21.

During the clashes, Dalit houses were attacked prevailing tension with the upper-caste Thakur community in the month of May. Mayawati met with few Dalits during her visit to the village and also headed party workers at the Ravidas temple.

“I want to offer the BSP platform to all organisations who are working for the cause of Dalits to hold functions,” Mayawati stated.

Mayawati also blamed CM Yogi Adityanath stating that he has embezzled official machinery to hinder harmony in UP and stated “there were no such matters when I ruled the state”.
