Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh to visit Pakistan for Saarc home ministers’ meet in August


Union home minister Rajnath Singh has decided to go to Pakistan to be a part of South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation’s (Saarc) home/interior ministers on August 3 and 4.

The main motive behind going there was Rajnath Singh will raise the issue of cross-border terrorism at the meeting, sources said.

Earlier, at the 13th Saarc Summit which was held in Dhaka in November 2005 was conducted to build up cooperation in the area of counter-terrorism. The first meeting of Saarc interior/home ministers took place in Dhaka on May 11, 2006 which was later followed by a meeting in New Delhi in 2007.

After the death of 22-yr old Burhan Wani on July 8, Kashmir has been on the boil. His death sparked violent protests in the Valley that killed more than 40 people and wounded hundreds.

Moreover, the leaders of Pakistan also criticised India over the Kashmir issues  and the country observed on July 20 a “black day” to protest against the killings.
