The Union Cabinet has allowed the elimination of the no detention policy in schools till class 8. The facilitating provision will be created under the Right of Children for Free and Compulsory Education amendment.
This decision of Cabinet would permit states to stay students in class 5 and 8 if they not succeed in the final test.
The candidates would receive a second possibility to appear for the exam for the next class. This decision would be taken only when the bill is passed by Parliament.
At present, all the RTE candidates are being promoted directly to the next class till class 8. In the interim time, the Cabinet allowed the decision to form 20 world-class colleges in the country.
In February, latest rules were made by University Grants Commission (UGC) to create 20 world-class institutions.
