Patna: A senior journalist and a TV channel reporter were shot dead by unidentied assailants on Friday in Bihar and Jharkhand respectively. On Friday evening, Rajdeo Ranjan, a journalist with over 20 years of experience and the bureau chief of the Hindi daily Hindustan, was shot dead in Bihar's Siwan district.
Ranjan was on his way home on his motorcycle when the five unidentified assailants on to motorcycles shot at him multiple times.
One of the bullets hit him in the neck and another in the head. He was taken to a local hospital but was declared dead. The Bihar Police says the motive for the killing is unclear and that he had no personal enmity with anyone.
Three people have been detained in the case and their interrogation is likely to start soon.
Meanwhile, in Jharkhand, Akhilesh Pratap Singh (35), a journalist of a news channel, was gunned down by unidentified people at Dewaria in Chatra district, the police said.
Mr Singh was attacked near panchayat secretariat of the village on Thursday night, a police official said. A bandh was observed in Chatra town in protest against the killing.
