Two earthquakes of magnitude 3.1 and 5.5 hits Assam, no casualties reported


Guwahati: Two earthquakes of magnitude 3.1 and 5.5 shook Assam on Tuesday. All the residents rushed out from their home as they got panic.

‘No immediate report of any injury or damage to property due to the tremors’, the police said.

The first earthquake of magnitude 3.1 hit Guwahati and other parts of the state at 5.30 am. It had its epicentre at latitude 25.6 degree north and longitude 93.2 degree east at a depth of 10 km in Karbi Anglong district of the state.

“The second tremor of moderate intensity was at 7.41 am with its epicentre 23.8 north and 94.5 degree east in the Indo-Myanmar region at a depth of 100 km”, the office said.

“The earthquake measuring 5.5 on the Richter Scale occurred at around 7:11 am and its epicentre was traced to a depth of 100 km underneath the earth's crust in Myanmar but close to Manipur”, Officials of Regional Seismological Centre told.

No casualties have been reported.
