UP: Two arrested for enforcing Dalit woman to sip acid on train to Lucknow


At Least two people were detained on Friday for brutally forcing a Dalit woman to have acid when she was going from Rae Bareli to Lucknow in the Ganga Gomti Express.

On Thursday, the incident occurred after the train reached Charbagh station in Lucknow and the sufferer filed a case with the Government Railway Police (GRP). The reports revealed that nearly four Railway Protection Force (RPF) officials who were on escort duty have been debarred.

The 38-year-old victim and her husband had lodged an FIR against Dileep Singh and his brother Pradeep. They were charged for causing grievous hurt by acid and the SC/ST Act at Charbagh GRP police station.

Between year 2009 and 2012, the woman lodged case against the two culprits, their father and other members of their family for doing gangrape (2 cases), molestation (2) and acid attack (1). After probe, the gangrape cases had been cleared by the police. On the other hand, left over four cases are still unresolved in court. The woman suffered acid attack on Thursday and she was taken to the King George’s Medical University for the treatment. The doctors revealed that her condition is better now.

UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Women’s Welfare Minister Rita Bahuguna Joshi visited the victim on Friday at the hospital. It has been announced by the state government that Rs 1 lakh aid and security cover will be given to the victim for treatment. The accused Dileep and his elder brother Pradeep has been detained by the police from Unchahar area in Rae Bareli. Dileep is a security guard at a cold storage facility and Pradeep works as a farmer.

Director General, GRP, Gopal Gupta said, “According to the FIR, the casualty boarded the train from Rae Bareli on Thursday morning. As the train reached Mohanlalganj railroad station on Lucknow edges, the two blamed boarded the train. The complaint stated that both the culprits constrained the lady to drink acid. She was going by in general compartment.”

He further said, “At the point when the prepare achieved Charbagh railroad station, the casualty, who was not ready to talk, strolled to the GRP police headquarters and educated the police about the episode by composing on a bit of paper. She was raced to King George’s Medical University (KGMU.)”

“Her significant other has not specified or educated about the thought process behind the strike on the lady,” included Gupta.
