Trying to save Gurdip Singh from execution in Indonesia


On Thursday the External Affairs Ministry is making last effort to save an Indian (Gurdip Singh) facing execution after being sentenced to death in Indonesia. Union Minister Sushma Swaraj conveyed that, the administration annoying to save Gurdip Singh, 48, was establish guilty in smuggling drugs in Indonesia. Union Minister Swaraj also further conveyed that, in Indonesia Gurdip Singh is facing death sentence in a drug case. We are making final minute attempt to save him from execution on July 28.

On Thursday Gurdip, who is from Jalandhar in Punjab, is with 14 people who will be executed by Indonesian authorities in Tangerang Banten province. The executions are to be carried out at Nusakambangan Prison Island. Indonesia has amongst the world's toughest drug laws and removed a temporary ban on death penalties three years ago despite protests by rights groups. Muhammad Prasetyo has conveyed on Wednesday that, the 14 drug convicts that may be executed this weekend comprise people from at least four nationalities i.e. Nigeria, Zimbabwe, Pakistan and India, the attorney general.
