Study suggests old couples to include dancing in their daily health regime to avoid ageing
With time, the signs of ageing start to show on your skin and overall health. According to a new study it looks like ageing can be reversed in a fun way. Dancing is suggested to one of the reasons to resist ageing. Involving elderly people particularly into dancing can actually reverse the signs of ageing in the brain. We suffer a loss in mental as well as physical health as our age increases. It can be made worse by serious conditions like Alzheimer’s disease.
According to experts, “Exercise has the beneficial effect of slowing down or even counteracting age-related decline in mental and physical capacity.” This study showed that two different types of physical exercise including dancing and endurance training both increase the area of the brain that declines with age. When compared, only dancing leads to noticeable behavioral changes in terms of improved balance.
The volunteers included in the study were of an average age of 68. All of these volunteers assigned an 18 month weekly course of learning dancing routines or flexibility and endurance training.
It was noticed in the study that both groups showed an increase in the hippocampus region of the brain. ‘Hippocampus’ is prone to ageing area which may be affected by diseases like Alzheimer’s. This important region of brain also plays a key role in memory and learning.
