AGARTALA– A heavy rain and flood like situation occurred in Tripura that led to the death of about 2,000 people on Monday. As per the reports, several people lost their lives in the floods on Tuesday.
As per the reports, the families who got misplaced in the flood belong to Sadar, Jirania and Mohanpur in West Tripura district.
“Heavy monsoon rain since Sunday night flooded the low-lying areas, roads, inhabited areas in five sub-divisions of two districts of Tripura,” the Disaster Management Control Centre official stated.
He asserted that the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Tripura State Rifles teams and officials of the district administrations have been enforced in the region to evacuate several people.
Due to heavy rain, several rivers Howra and Khowai were flowing above the normal level.
On Monday, CM Manik Sarkar conducted a meeting to check out the situation of Tripura.
Sarkar has directed the district administrations to unlock the control rooms in the exaggerated districts round-the-clock to review the situation and take strict steps to help the people.
Meteorological Department Director Dilip Saha stated more rain is likely to hit Tripura till Thursday.
“In June, 695 mm rainfall was recorded in Agartala against the expected normal monsoon rainfall of 421 mm,” Saha stated.
