Thanjavur: Bus rams into truck, 9 killed


Thanjavur: On Friday at about 7.30 pm in Thanjavur, nine people, counting five women were killed following a TNSTC bus crushed a truck close to Vallam. Total 25 travelers sustained grievance and been admitted to the Thanjavur administration medical college hospital.

Police officials have also conveyed that the TNSTC bus was travelling towards Kumbakonam from Tiruppur transporting about 60 passengers. The truck carrying iron rods was also moving towards Thanjavur from Trichy.

Following crossing a road over bridge on the Trichy – Thanjavur national highway, the truck driver abruptly took right turn without giving any signal. Following the sudden turn, the bus driver applied breaks. The front right tyre of the bus burst and then rammed next to the truck pushing it back to a certain distance.

With this seven people counting bus driver Ravichandran, truck driver Sathish kumar and five women travelers killed at the scene. Two others succumbed to grievance at the Thanjavur administration medical college hospital.

Amongst the women who killed, three were recognized as Poonguzhali, 40, Arulmozhi, 30 and Malini, 19 whereas the identity of the others yet to be revealed.

Teenage girl hacked to death by lover in Aligarh

District collector Annathurai and police officials hurried to the spot and manage relief measures. Overall 25 wounded travelers were taken to the hospital. Police recovered the bodies and sent them for post mortem. Vallam police have filed a case and are investigating.
