BANGKOK: A Thai zoo has faced anger following a video of staff repeatedly poking a tiger to draw out growl for traveler photographs went viral on social media.
The video and photographs of incident have gone viral on the social media. It has collected over one million views since it was shared on Monday. It represents the Pattaya zoo attendant prodding the tiger on his face with the help of a stick as sightseer was taking photos.
“This tiger gets jabbed daily, several times a day so it will growl for the photograph with visitor,” shared Edwin Wiek, the founder of Wildlife Friends Foundation Thailand.
A representative of the zoo stated that the tiger attendant had been shifted to one more job over the matter.
“The proprietor he loves animals and he will not permit staff to harm his animals,” she affirmed.
Animal rights groups have condemned the matter.
