Williams' second-round win over kindred American Vania King carried her level with Martina Navratilova's record of 306 thousand hammer wins.
"I knew it was not too far off," Williams said of the record. "I knew at Wimbledon that I needed to arrive. Clearly I'm amped up for that. I might want to make one more stride, a few more strides."
Williams' troublesome right shoulder has held up well so far however she lets it out is a consistent fight.
"Only huge amounts of treatment, huge amounts of recovery, huge amounts of ice," she said. "It's consistent."
Fourth seed Agnieszka Radwanska, who could yet overwhelm Williams as world number one this fortnight, plays Caroline Garcia of France while 6th seed Venus Williams meets Germany's Laura Siegemund.
