Tennis Champion Lionel Messi heads Argentina team for World Cup qualifiers


Buenos Aires: FIFA Ballon d’Or Champion Lionel Messi is all set to lead 26-member Argentina football team for 2018 FIFA World Cup matches that will be played against Chile and Bolivia.

Juventus champion Gonzalo Higuain, Manchester City player Sergio Aguero, Paris Saint-Germain striker Angel Di Maria and Messi’s Barcelona associate Javier Mascherano have been chosen in the list by Albiceleste coach Edgardo Bauza.

Inter Milan Captain Mauro Icardi has not been chosen in the list. He secured 16 goals in 25 matches for the Series A heavyweights in 2017.

Other names in the list include Estudiantes goalkeeper Mariano Andujar and Racing Club midfielder Marcos Acuna.
