Tech Giant Google Unveiled Duo To Take On Apple’s FaceTime, Skype

New Delhi:  American Multinational Company Google has come up with video calling app ‘Google Duo’ for Android and iOS users. The Duo app will be in competition with Apple's App FaceTime and Skype.

Three months ago, Google had proclaimed that it will unveil the video calling app.  The app aims to take the "complexity out of video calling".

"Video calling is the next best thing to being with someone in person. We have designed the interface to be simple, easy and welcoming. In places like India, it has been designed to adapt to the network connectivity conditions. We hope to make the experience of video calling more personal, inviting easy and smooth," Google Group Product Manager Amit Fulay said.

The app will be live worldwide in next few days. To ensure privacy and security, all Duo calls are end-to-end encrypted.

The Duo app will help the users to connect by using the phone number without a separate username/account.

'Knock Knock' feature has been unveiled by Google few days back that allows people to see live video of the caller before they answer. It also helps users to connect with the person even before they pick up.

"Duo has been built to be fast and reliable, so that video calls connect quickly and work well even on slower networks.” Google said.

“Call quality adjusts to changing network conditions to keep you connected when bandwidth is limited, Duo will gracefully reduce the resolution to keep the call going smoothly," Google added.

Without dropping the call, Duo can switch between Wi-Fi and cellular data automatically.
