Jaipur: A 22-year-old woman who was returning from a late night party took a cab and the cab ride back to her home turned into the worst nightmare for her. The woman was allegedly kidnapped and physically assaulted by the driver in the wee hours of Friday in the Vishwa Karma area of the city.
According to police, the victim and two of her roommates had gone for a party at a club nearC-Scheme in the city on Thursday night.
When the party was coming to an end, one of them booked an Uber cab from her mobile. But the phone’s battery drained out before she could get the details of the taxi.
“They came out of the club and started looking for the cab. They approached a driver who claimed to be an Uber driver,” said Ashok Gupta, DCP west.
The three decided to take the cab, and asked the driver to drop them at their friend’s place in Murlipura area. While two of them sat behind, the third took the front seat.
“The driver turned off the lights inside the cab, and allegedly changed directions many times and headed towards the Vishwa Karma industrial area,” Gupta said.
Near the Milan cinema on Harmada highway, the driver pretended to have a flat tyre and pulled over. He requested the two friends sitting behind to step out.
“The driver remained seated in the car, and as soon as the two stepped out, he fled from the scene with the victim who was sitting in the front seat,” said Kanwar Pal Singh, SHO, Vishwa Karma police station.
The two petrified women found themselves marooned on the dimly lit VKI Road. “They found an eatery a little ahead on the road. A police patrol unit found them and questioned them. The two broke down and narrated their tale to the constables,” Singh said.
They sought help for their abducted friend and were taken to the police station. “Three Chetak units followed the trail and found the cab parked under a flyover in Daulat Pura area. On seeing the police, the driver fled from the spot and they rescued the victim,” Singh said.
There were marks of struggle on the abducted girl’s face, suggesting that the driver had tried to molest her. Jaipur police commissioner Sanjay Agarwal said that all police stations in the city were searching for the accused. “The police have taken all necessary steps to handle such cases. The three friends are in an extreme state of shock after the incident. We will find the culprit soon. The search team is working on clues provided by the three,” he said.
According to sources, all the three women are students of charted accountancy. “The girl who was abducted belongs to a city in Punjab. The two others are from Jhunjhunu. We have registered a case of abduction and physical assault,” the official added.
