Tanzil Ahmed murder case: Main accused Muneer arrested, questioning underway

New Delhi: Two months after National Investigation Agency (NIA) officer Tanzil Ahmed was shot dead on the highway near Delhi, the main accused has been arrested. The accused Muneer has been taken into custody and the police is currently questioning him. Thirty-five-year-old Muneer is a former student of Aligarh Muslim University and was wanted in two other murder cases.

Tanzil Ahmed was shot 21 times on April 3 by assailants on his way back from a wedding in Uttar Pradesh's Bijnor district. Tanzil was declared dead at a nearby hospital soon after the incident. His wife Farzana succumbed to injuries a few days after Tanzil passed away. Ahmed's 16-year-old daughter Zimnish and 14-year-old son Shahbaaz escaped unhurt.

Earlier, Uttar Pradesh Police had claimed to have solved the case by arresting two persons and contended that domestic dispute was the motive behind the crime. Among the two arrested is nephew of Ahmed's brother-in-law Rehan.
