Strong tremors of the earthquake with a magnitude of 5.6 shook eastern parts of Taiwan on Thursday morning, according to the US Geological Survey. Nanao, east of Yilan country in northern Taiwan, reported tremors measuring the biggest intensity at 6, while Taipei experienced tremors of an intensity of four.
The epic centre of earthquake was located 14 kilometers away from eastern coastal city Su-Aaoo. The quake was followed by 4smaller shivers, including a 5.5 magnitude one, according to the centre spokesman Chang Chien- hsing.
No major casualties have been reported till now.
Centre’s spokesperson has advised citizens to be careful for next 2 day as the quake is expected to arise again today and tomorrow. Panicked residents rushed out of their homes as the quake rattled.
As the earthquakes took place in comparatively shallow areas, the shock waves would last somewhat longer in the urban areas where high-rise buildings are located, Chang said.
