Maruti Suzuki the giant and leading Japanese automotive company officially unveiled its new car The Ignis compact crossover at the Paris Motor Show 2016. Suzuki pegs the vehicle as its new compact crossover for global markets while sales are expected to begin in Europe from 2017, India will be getting the Maruti Suzuki Ignis by the upcoming festive season.
\Although the Ignis compact crossover showcased at the Paris Motor Show was of European spec model, but the India-spec model isn't expected to be largely different.
The new Ignis looks more like an updated Jimny, but comes with four doors instead of two making it more practical than the latter. It features a distinctive look and features a practical design that sticks to the stuff we have comes to expect from Suzuki vehicles. There is plenty of room inside as well and the interiors get a clutter free look. The Ignis is light and Suzuki has used a high tensile steel to reduce the overall weight of the vehicle while maintaining rigidity.
One of the key features about the design of the Ignis is the way it merges the dimensions of a hatchback with the higher stance of a crossover without looking like a tall-boy hatchback. The boxy design gives the Ignis a dynamic stance and appealing character. The European model bears LED daytime running lights (DRLs), which are expected to be carried forward to India, as seen on the Baleno.
The Ignis was showcased with a 1.2 DUALJET engine (K12C), petrol engine, which has been equipped with the Smart Hybrid Vehicle by Suzuki (SHVS), to offer improved fuel-efficiency. This technology is already available in India on the Ciaz and Ertiga and both models offered a considerable increase in fuel-efficiency after being equipped with SHVS. This engine is paired to a five-speed manual transmission. In India, we expect the company to launch the 1.0 L three-cylinder Boosterjet petrol engine as well. The same engine will also be launched soon in the upcoming Maruti Suzuki Baleno RS. Maruti Suzuki, however, hasn't made any official confirmation on the specifications but has earlier confirmed that the Ignis will be launched in 2016.
The Ignis will be the first crossover from Maruti Suzuki in India and will join the recently launched Vitara Brezza and Baleno, both of which have received a good consumer feedback.
