SC to hear AAP’s plea challenging Delhi High Court order on Sept. 9

Last week, the apex court permitted the self-styled godman to travel to Delhi from Jodhpur jail by air for his check-up.

Earlier, the court had also asked the 72-year-old to deposit Rs 1 lakh towards the travel expenses of a medical team that would go to Jodhpur to examine him.

Asaram was arrested after a 16-year-old girl lodged a police complaint on Aug 20, 2013, accusing him of sexually assaulting her at his ashram in Jodhpur. He is being tried under the provision of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO). He was arrested on August 31, 2013, and has been in jail since then. Asaram's counsel had sought bail citing that the accused has been suffering several ailments.
