SriLankan navy arrests 11 Indian fishermen for poaching in local waters


COLOMBO: The SriLankan Navy assistance has arrested at least 11 Indian fishermen along with their trawlers, the military said on Sunday.

The fishermen were arrested on Saturday while fishing near Sri Lanka’s Neduntheevu island, all the fishermen hails from Rameswaram in Tamil Nadu

The fishermen were spotted fishing illegally in Sri Lankan waters northwest off the coast of Jaffna’s Delft islet, the navy further said.

Neraly 3,500 fishermen in 634 boats had put out to sea from Rameswaram last night.
