Tamil Nadu : Sri Lanka Navy has assisted the Sri Lanka Coast Guard on Wednesday to arrest seven Indian fishermen for crossing the International Maritime Boundary Line (IMBL) and fishing in Sri Lankan waters. The Navy personnel arrested the seven fishermen along with an Indian fishing trawler while fishing in Sri Lankan waters northwest of Thalaimannar on Monday, 30th May 2016.
The seven, part of groups of fishermen who put out to sea from Rameswaram, have been taken to Talaimannar in northern Sri Lanka, Rameswaram Fishermen Association President T Sesuraja said. The arrest came on the first day of fishermen resuming their work after the end of a 45-day-long annual fish breeding season ban on fishing using mechanised boats. Sesuraja said the other fishermen who returned to the shores got a good harvest of prawns and other varieties of fish.
