New Delhi: The Patiala House Court will issue an order on October 6 whether to summon Union Textile Minister Smriti Irani or not in a complaint filed against her for providing apparently false academic qualifications in the polls affidavits.
The plea was filed by one Ahmed Khan, a freelance writer, on June 2015. Earlier, the court had put off issuing the order saying that it was not yet ready. The complainant’s lawyer said that in 2004 polls, Irani gave her educational qualifications as BA from Delhi University in the affidavit. But while filing RS nomination Papers in Gujarat in 2011, she was a BCom, Part 1 (correspondence course) from DU.
The court was told that the affidavit papers containing her educational qualifications that Irani had filed while filing her nomination were not to be found. The complainant had alleged that the Minister had apparently furnished wrong information before the Election Commission and a candidate giving incorrect details could be made to undergo punishment under IPC and Representation of the People Act.
