Severe storm in Simhasth Maha Kumbh in Ujjain killed 7 people


Ujjain. Ongoing Simhastha Kumbh Mela in Ujjain was devastated by sudden strong winds and heavy rainfall. It killed 7 people including a monk and more than 90 people are reported to be injured. In the wake of the storm, 70% of the marquees were collapsed in fair. Prime Minister Narendra Modi condoled the incident.

Six people lost their life due to falling of marquee in the areas of Dutt Akhada and Chitaman. These areas have high number of injured people too. The injured have been sent to local hospitals for treatment.  The new moon on Friday is going to challenge the administration for Panchkoshi Yatra and festive bath. 25 million people are expected to gather in Ujjain for the Yatra.

All the bases covered by the government were destroyed by the wind and rain.  Most of the marquees were set up in the fields, but there have been a total mess and dirt due to wet mud.

Prime Minister expressed grief over the incident, tweeted, “I am sad for the people who lost their lives in Kumbh Mela. God must give courage to their families to emerge from misery.” He also wished for a quick recovery of injured.

Madhyta Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Friday visited those who were injured after several tents collapsed yesterday. Also, State government announced to give 2 lakh rupees to the family of people who were killed, Rs 50,000 for seriously injured and 25000 to other affected people as compensation.
