Seven people died due to heavy rainfall in Uttarakhand


Uttarakhand: The incident happened on Friday when seven people died due to heavy monsoon and landslides in Uttarakhand.

Due to heavy rainfall large tracts of agriculture fields were destroyed in Suva village in Pithoragarh’s Dharchula area and three bridges linking it to the rest of the district have been washed away, officials said.

The reports says that, five people are found dead in Pithoragarh district while two have been killed in Chamoli district. Rescue teams recovered the bodies of two men from Suru village in Chamoli.

“Three members of a family are feared dead in a landslide in a village Nachni. Officials have rushed to the spot,” officials at Pithoragarh police control room said.

He further added, two others are fenced in a landslide near Thal in Pithoragarh.

Moreover, the communication network has been severely destroyed at several places. Char Dham yatra route will be affected due to the landslide.

The Thal-Munsyari road has been blocked and dozens of vehicles have been put on halt. The Yamunotri highway, near Kharadi, has also been damaged.

After the landslide, entry of heavy vehicles was stopped at Gangolgaon.

A warning has been issued by Indian Meteorological department in the isolated areas of Uttarakhand especially in Nainital, Udhamsingh Nagar and Champawat districts over the next 72 hours.
