A senior Pakistani police official was among three people killed today in a suicide attack on a police vehicle that likewise left 11 others harmed in the nation’s restive Balochistan province, as per a media report.
Although initial reports recommended the blast was caused by an Improvised Explosive Device, police sources later said it was a suicide attack focusing on the vehicle. The blast occurred in Chaman city in Balochistan situated near to the Afghan town of Spin Boldak, Dawn News revealed.
District Police Officer Killa Abdullah Sajid Mohmand, who was critically injured in the blast, succumbed to his wounds in the hoaspital. Two others were likewise murdered in the attack.
Cops and passers-by were among those injured in the attack, the report said.
An emergency has been announced in hospitals and law enforcement and rescue authorities have been dispatched to the site of the incident.
Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar and Balochistan Home Minister Mir Sarfaraz Ahmed Bugti condemned the assault. Mr Nisar looked for a report probing the incident.
Chaman is viewed as a sensitive town in Balochistan as it shares a border with Afghanistan’s volatile Kandahar province.
