Earlier in August, the Delhi High Court ruled that LG Jung was the administrative head of the capital and was not required to act on the advice of Delhi cabinet. The court stated that AAP government’s contention that the LG is bound to act on advice of Council of Ministers is “without any substance” and cannot be accepted.

The High Court also asked the state government to take the approval of LG in all policy matters which worsened the matters between Centre and AAP. The ruling came as a setback to the AAP government as it had been pursuing demands of statehood for Delhi ever since it came to power.

Reacting to the ruling, Arvind Kejriwal led government moved the Supreme court against the High Court’s judgement. Since the ruling came in, Kejriwal alleges that the ruling BJP, which lost the Delhi election is trying to overrule and harass the incumbent Delhi government. Kejriwal recently posted a series of tweets accusing Prime Minister Narendra Modi of being “hell-bent on destroying Delhi”.
