New Delhi: The Supreme Court today dismissed a PIL against government funding to separatists in Jammu and Kashmir that alleged they were misusing the money to finance anti-India activities.
A Supreme Court bench comprising Justice Dipak Misra and Justice UU Lalit said that you can’t use the term separatist in court.
According to the Public Interest Litigation (PIL) submitted on September 8, the government spent Rs 100 crore on foreign travel, security and other expenses of separatists. Later, the separatists misuse the money, the PIL said, to fund anti-India activities.
It is difficult for the judiciary to keep an eye on what funds are given to whom, especially when it comes to a sensitive state such as Jammu and Kashmir (J&K). Security cover given by a government to a citizen facing a threat is within the executive’s domain, he added.
