Sarjubala enters final, Nikhat settles for bronze : Women’s National Boxing C’ship


Haridwar:  Silver Medallist Sarjubala Devi of Manipur entered final in 48 kg category in the national champion matches on Wednesday.

 On the other hand, Former Junior World Champion Nikhat Zareen secured bronze medal as its opponent player defeated her in the semifinals of the Women's Senior National Boxing Championship.

Boxer Sarjubala defeated Rajesh Narwal in the national champion match. He represents the Railways Sports Promotion Board. Now, the Manipuri girl will face Krishna Thapa that defeated Monika of Haryana by a score of 3-2.

However, Boxer Nikhat from Telangana could not able to go to the final round of the tournament as she was stunned by Haryana's Neeraja 4-1.

In bantamweight (54kg) category, Uttar Pradesh's Soniya won the match over Chanda by 5-0.

In featherweight division, Haryana's Soniya reached to the finals with a dominating 4-1 win over Shaily Singh of Uttar Pradesh. In the next match, she will face Kamla Bist of Uttrakhand for the gold medal.

In the lightweight category, Pugilist Priyanka Choudhary defeated AIP's Preeti Beniwal by 5-0.

Several other boxers including Jyoti from Haryana, Simranjit Kaur from Punjab in 64 kg category, Pooja from Haryana and Shashi Kala from HP in 69 kg category reached to the finals.
