In this race the Sanganer police station topped the list of stations reporting the highest number of crimes in the city last year, followed by Vaishali Nagar and Jawahar Circle, with Pratap Nagar and Jhotwara making up the top five.

“The Sanganer station registered 1,385 cases under IPC relating to various crimes, the highest in Jaipur. It was followed by Vaishali Nagar station with 1,108 cases, Jawahar Circle 1,033, Pratap Nagar 886 and Jhotwara 867," said a senior police official of the Jaipur police commissionerate on Wednesday. He said that these numbers were unlikely to fall as these areas have developed and expanded in the course of a decade.

"There was no need to have a police station in the reas like Pratap Nagar 10 years ago. However, the police station now caters to over 75,000 people after various builders and Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) started colonies in the area. I think we need to bifurcate some of these stations in these areas. Police stations like Sanganer, Jhotwara, Vaishali Nagar and Jawahar Circle too are overburdened and overloaded with work," officials said.

"These are the crime-prone stations of Jaipur. Under Jhotwara station, there are areas like Kardhani and Karni Vihar. These cannot be effectively policed by a station having strength of over 50 personnel," said Prafful Kumar, additional commissioner of police, Jaipur

These police stations are also close to highways, which make it easier for assailants and criminals to flee. "It's easy to escape from Sanganer police station area towards Tonk, Kota and Sawai Madhopur. Jhotwara is close to Jaipur-Churu highway and Vaishali Nagar to Jaipur-Ajmer-Ahmedabad highway ," said an officer.
