Sadhvi Deva Thakur surrenders for killing woman in Karnal wedding firing

Hindu godwoman Sadhvi Deva Thakur, accused of killing a woman and injuring others during celebratory firing at a wedding in Karnal, surrendered today before a court in Haryana's Karnal district.

A woman was killed and three others were seriously injured on Wednesday when Thakur and her private security men went on a shooting spree during the wedding function.

The victim and those injured had come to attend the ceremony where Thakur and her accomplices started the shooting spree with their weapons. Several rounds were fired by them. 

Police had booked the Hindu godwoman and her private security men for murder and other sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Arms Act following the shooting incident.

The incident took place on Tuesday at Savitrii Lawns marriage palace near the  Karnal town railway station, 140 km from Chandigarh. Karnal is also the Assembly constituency of Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar.
