Rome: An 4.0 magnitude earthquake hit Italian island of Ischia on Monday that takes the lives of at least one person and wounded 25 others due to the crumple of a building.
During the earthquake, several residents and tourists came out on the streets from their homes and hotels to save their lives. The photographs of incident have gone viral on the social media. TV Channels also displayed six collapsed buildings in Casamicciola.
As per Italy`s National Institute of Geophysics and Vulcanology (INGV), the earthquake was of magnitude 4.0 while U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) and the European quake agency, EMSC, projected the magnitude of earthquake at 4.3.
As per Local Civil Protection Department official Giovanni Vittozzi, at least one woman died when she was strike by collapsing stonework from a church.
Several Helicopters and a ferry boat rushed to the spot to evacuate people from the island. Roberto Allocca, a doctor stated, nearly 25 people had witnessed injuries.
Few civil protection teams were already on the island due to brushfires.
