Rio Olympics 2016: Lalita Babar smashes national record into Women’s 3000m steeplechase, enters in final


India’s women’s 3000m steeplechase runners had a mixed outing in on Day 8 of the Rio Olympics 2016 as Lalita Babar qualified for the final but Sudha Singh failed to make the cut.

Lalita even managed to shatter the Indian national record on her way to the final. 

She completed the race in 9.19.76, smashing the earlier record held by Sudha Singh who did it in 9.26.55.

She has qualified for the finals with this time. Sudha Singh was disappointing in her qualifying, as she finished ninth with a time of 9.43.29.

India's Nirmala Sheoran also failed to qualify in the women's 400m final.
