Rio Olympic: Japan’s Wrestler Risako Kawai clinched fourth gold


Risako Kawai bagged a wrestling gold medal in her Olympic debut, winning the women’s 63-kilogram title on Thursday at the Rio de Janeiro Games.

The 21-year-old student at Shigakkan University hails from Tsubata, Ishikawa Prefecture.

Both of her parents were wrestlers, and she took up the sport when she was a second-grade student at primary school.

After changing her division from 58 kilograms to 63 kilograms, Kawai won the silver medal at the 2015 world championships in September last year.
