A retired Delhi Police officer purportedly committed suicide on Sunday by jumping in front of a moving train. The railway police received a call around 6 am from a passer-by who discovered the body at Tilak Bridge, where the incident took place.
He identified as R S Bhasin, who had retired as assistant commissioner of police (ACP) a few months ago. His family members told the police that he was suffering from a stomach disorder and was not receiving relief from treatment. He was also under depression. The railway police have sent the body for postmortem.
"The deceased has been identified as Ram Swaroop Bhasin, who retired from the Delhi Police as an Additional Commissioner of Police (ACP) almost seven months ago," said Milind Dumbre, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Railways).
"The deceased was identified after a suicide note was recovered from his pocket," the officer from the railway police said.
"He had a stomach problem that was not going away. The family and Bhasin suspected cancer which probably sent the retired officer in depression," Dumbre added.
