Rescue operations continue in Rajasthan, schools shut


It was a deja vu for the residents of Barmer which is reeling under the risk of a flood-like situation.

Memories of the 2006 flash floods are back to haunt the residents of the desert district, which prior in the week recorded heavy rainfall. The over-flowing water in the Narmada Canal has harmed its walls in the Gudamalani zone and the threat of the area being flooded, is rising. Water has gone into numerous villages and many individuals are stranded.

Eight, individuals including three kids, died in the district in the last four days. Though the rains have stopped but rescue operations are on and schools have been closed indefinitely.

Around 50-60 villagers of Gandhavkhurd village close Gudamalani in Barmer area was surrounded by flood water. NDRF team is saving the villagers. Till now, 25 villagers are protected and sent to safer places.
