Former Indian player Ravi Shastri was chosen as a Indian coach on Tuesday by Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC). Earlier, he had faced the position of team director. The committee took decision on Tuesday night following the conference with Indian captain Virat Kohli. It includes Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and VVS Laxman.
On the other hand, Zaheer Khan has been selected as a bowling coach whereas Sanjay Bangar stays on the position of batting coach. As per the reports, former indian player Rahul Dravid has been directed to give some training to the Indian team as a batting mentor but this will not be on a lasting basis.
On Monday, Ravi Shastri stated that Indian team’s performance in the last 12 months has fallen down and his plan was to bring the team back on path.
“The BCCI announces the appointment of Mr. Ravi Shastri as the Head Coach, Mr. Zaheer Khan as the Bowling Consultant and Mr. Rahul Dravid who will be the Overseas Batting Consultant (Test cricket) for the Indian Cricket Team,” BCCI’s acting secterary Amitabh Choudhary stated.
“As part of the process for selecting the Head Coach, the Cricket Advisory Committee comprising of Mr. Sachin Tendulkar, Mr. Sourav Ganguly and Mr. VVS Laxman conducted the interviews and recommended these appointments in the best interest of the Indian Cricket. The term of the appointments will be till the World Cup 2019.” he said
“As the Indian team is to play Test cricket overseas in the next two years, Rahul Dravid’s expertise as batting consultant will be immensely helpful for youngsters,” Choudhary asserted.
