Jaipur: The Jaipur police arrested a 'tantrik' for cutting the tail of a cow in the Bassi area of the city on Saturday evening. According to Mukesh Choudhary, SHO, Bassi police station, Rewar Mal (50) was arrested from Toda Bhatta after Rami Sai Meena, a labourer, lodged a complaint that Mal had cut the tail of his cow.
"Several villagers had demanded action against the tantric. We arrested him to ensure that the case doesn't snowball into a controversy," police said.
According to Meena, he had gone out of the city for some work on Friday. When he came back, he found that one of his cows was bleeding. "Her tail was cut off. We searched around and saw that the neighbor, Rewar Mal, had lit a bonfire. I found the tail near the bonfire, which he was about to throw into flames as part of some ritual," he said. Meena along with other villagers took Rewar Mal to the police and alleged that the accused had been attacking cows as part of some black magic ritual.
"Earlier, Rewar Mal had cut the ear of another cow in our area. This time we caught him red-handed and took him to the police," Meena said. However, Choudhary said that they found Mal's condition unstable. "We are yet to ascertain if he actually attacked any other cow. His mental condition is not stable and we are currently questioning him," he said. A police official said that prompt action was taken to ensure that the matter does not turn into another cow-related controversy.
